Praise: The Water That Calls the Enemy to Drown

Pull up a chair, sis. Take a deep breath. You are in a safe space now, a sanctuary where your story isn’t just heard; it’s honored. Here at Her Story: The Gathering Inc., we spend a lot of time talking about the heavy stuff. We talk about the trauma that keeps us up at night, the shadows that try to follow us into our bright futures, and the battles we fight just to keep our peace. But today, I want to talk about your most powerful weapon.

It isn’t a loud argument. It isn’t a perfectly crafted rebuttal. It isn’t even your own strength, because let’s be real, some days we are running on empty.

Today, we are talking about praise.

There’s a thought that has been sitting heavy and beautiful on my heart lately: Praise is the water that calls my enemies to drown. It’s a concept that flips the script on how we handle adversity. Instead of seeing our struggles as a flood that’s going to take us under, we realize that our praise creates a sea that God uses to handle the things trying to destroy us.

The Red Sea Reality

Think back to the story of the Red Sea. It’s one of those "Redemptive Hope" moments we talk about so often. The Israelites were backed into a corner. Behind them? Pharaoh’s army, the "enemies" of their past, their trauma, and their enslavement. In front of them? A massive, impossible body of water.

They felt trapped. They felt like victims. But God was setting up a breakthrough.

When the waters parted, it was a path of escape for the survivors. But when those same waters crashed back down? It was the end of the enemy. Psalm 106:11 tells us clearly: "But the water drowned their enemies; not one of them was left."

In our lives, praise acts as that very same water. When we praise God in the middle of our mess, we aren’t just singing songs or saying nice words. We are releasing a spiritual and emotional force that builds a path for us to walk through, and creates a drowning pool for the giants chasing us.

Identifying the "Enemies"

In our community, we know that "enemies" aren't always people. More often than not, the enemies we face are internal. They are the echoes of what happened to us years ago. They are the whispers of doubt that tell us we’ll never be whole again.

  • The Enemy of Shame: That voice that tells you to hide your story.

  • The Enemy of Fear: The one that makes you afraid to trust or love again.

  • The Enemy of Comparison: The thief that makes you think everyone else has it figured out while you’re still "broken."

When we choose to praise, to literally lift our voices and acknowledge the goodness of God despite the pain, we are calling these enemies to the water. Shame cannot survive in an atmosphere of praise. Fear loses its breath when we remind ourselves of who is actually in control.

At Her Story: The Gathering Inc., we believe in turning trauma into strength. We don't ignore the enemy; we just refuse to give him the microphone. We understand that your story is still being written, and praise is the ink that God uses to highlight the victories.

Praise as a Tactical Weapon

You might be thinking, "Katrina, how can I praise when my heart is breaking?"

I hear you. I see you. I’ve been there.

Praise isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s not a "fake it till you make it" vibe. It’s about raw honesty. It’s saying, "God, this hurts. This situation is unfair. My heart is heavy. But I still know You are good."

When you praise from a place of pain, it carries more weight. It creates a shift in the atmosphere. Imagine your praise as a rising tide. As you focus on the light, the water begins to rise around the feet of your problems. The more you lean into your unshakable faith, the higher the water goes. Eventually, those problems that seemed so big, so tall, and so intimidating are completely submerged.

They can't breathe in the presence of a woman who knows her worth. They can't survive in the heart of someone who has decided that her trauma does not get the final say.

Why Water?

Water is a beautiful thing. It refreshes the thirsty, but it also has the power to reshape the earth. It’s soft enough to wash a wound and strong enough to move mountains.

When your praise becomes the "water," it does two things simultaneously:

  1. It refreshes you. It washes away the dust of the battle. It cools the heat of the trauma. It gives you the strength to take one more step.

  2. It overwhelms the adversary. The enemy of your soul doesn't know what to do with a survivor who praises. It confuses the darkness. It drowns the lies.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the weight of your journey, maybe it's time to change the environment. Maybe it's time to stop trying to fight the fire with more fire and start calling in the water.

Healing is Possible. Your Story Matters.

I want to leave you with a few declarations. I want you to say these out loud: not because they are magic words, but because your voice has power.

  • My praise is a weapon.

  • The water is rising, and my enemies are losing their grip.

  • I am not a victim; I am a survivor walking on dry land.

  • God is still writing my story, and the best chapters are ahead.

Healing isn’t a destination; it’s a journey. There will be days when the "enemies" feel like they are winning. There will be days when the trauma feels like it's catching up. In those moments, remember the Red Sea. Remember that the very thing that looks like an obstacle in front of you: the water: is actually the tool God is using to clear the path behind you.

Stop looking back at what’s chasing you and start looking up at who is leading you.
