Imagine Me: The Beauty of Being Free

Take a deep breath. Right now, in this moment, I want you to close your eyes and let the noise of the world fade into a dull hum. Forget the emails, the laundry, the heavy expectations, and, most importantly, forget the labels that trauma tried to stitch into the fabric of your soul.
Now, I want you to see her.
See the woman who isn't defined by what happened to her. See the woman whose shoulders aren't hunched under the weight of "should-haves" and "could-haves." See the woman whose smile reaches her eyes because she finally feels safe in her own skin.
Imagine me, being free.
At Her Story: The Gathering, we talk a lot about healing, but healing isn't just about closing wounds; it’s about what happens after the scars have formed. It’s about the radical, beautiful, and sometimes terrifying act of imagining a life that is entirely yours again. It’s about reclaiming your identity and seeing yourself outside the context of the storm you just survived.
The Power of the "Imagine"
There is a profound shift that happens when we move from survival mode into imagination. Survival mode is narrow. It’s focused on the next step, the next breath, the next way to keep from sinking. But imagination? Imagination is wide. It’s the horizon. It’s the "what if" that leads to "I am."
For many of us, trauma acts like a thief. It doesn’t just steal our peace; it steals our ability to see a future where we aren't hurting. We get so used to the cage that even when the door is swung wide open, we stay tucked in the corner because we’ve forgotten how to fly.
But when we begin to say the words, “Imagine me, being free,” we are performing a prophetic act. We are telling our souls that there is more to the story than the chapters of pain. We are acknowledging that the Author of our lives, the one still writing our redemptive ending, has a vision for us that far exceeds our current circumstances.

Breaking the Mirror of Trauma
One of the hardest parts of the journey is looking in the mirror and seeing someone other than a "survivor." While there is immense strength in that word, it can also become a tether. If we aren't careful, we begin to view every success, every failure, and every relationship through the lens of our past pain.
Reclaiming your identity means breaking that mirror. It means realizing that while what happened to you is a part of your history, it is not the sum of your personhood.
You are a daughter. You are a creator. You are a friend. You are a woman of unshakable faith. You are a masterpiece in progress.
When you start to imagine yourself free, you start to see the colors again. You start to realize that your worth isn't tied to how well you managed the crisis, but to the simple, glorious fact that you exist. Freedom is the ability to walk into a room and not wonder if people can see the cracks. Freedom is knowing that even if they can, those cracks are where the light gets in.
A Journey We Take Together
In our community, freedom isn’t just a solo dream, it’s a journey we take together. We’ve found that it is so much easier to imagine yourself free when you are surrounded by sisters who are already walking in it, or who are at least reaching for the same sun.
There is something incredibly healing about seeing a woman who looks like you, or a woman who looks completely different but carries the same heart-fire, stepping into her power. At Her Story: The Gathering, our strength lies in our diversity. We are a beautiful tapestry of mixed races, backgrounds, and stories, all woven together by the common thread of wanting more for ourselves and each other.
When one of us breaks a chain, the rattle is heard by everyone else. It reminds us that the locks are broken for us, too.
If you’re feeling stuck in the "before," I want to invite you to join us. Whether it’s through our Empowerment Speaker Requests or simply joining our circle, you don’t have to figure out how to be free on your own.
The Emotional Release of Letting Go
Let’s be raw for a second: letting go is hard. Sometimes, we hold onto our pain because it’s the only thing that feels familiar. It’s the "known," and the "unknown" of freedom can feel like standing on the edge of a cliff.
But the release... oh, the release is where the magic happens.
It’s that moment when the lump in your throat finally dissolves. It’s the first time you laugh: really, deeply laugh: without checking to see if you’re allowed to. It’s the realization that you no longer have to explain yourself to people who were never committed to understanding you anyway.
Imagine the weight of those expectations falling off your shoulders. Imagine me, being free.

Practical Steps to Reclaim Your Vision
If you’re struggling to "see" your free self, try these small acts of reclamation:
Change the Narrative: When a memory of the trauma pops up, acknowledge it, but don't let it sit at the head of the table. Say out loud, "That was then. This is now. I am free."
Speak It into Existence: Use your voice. Tell a trusted friend, "I am imagining a version of myself that is at peace." Better yet, join our Newsletter to stay connected with voices that affirm your growth.
Read Stories of Hope: Fill your mind with redemptive narratives. Books like Interrupted Prayers by Katrina Staggers are lifelines that show how faith and honesty can lead to a breakthrough.
Visualize the Small Things: Don't try to imagine your whole life at once. Just imagine yourself having a peaceful cup of coffee. Imagine yourself sleeping through the night. Start small and watch the vision grow.
Healing is Possible
We want you to know: deeply and truly: that healing is not just a buzzword. It is a reality. Your story matters, and the chapters that haven't been written yet are full of light.
The trauma may have been a detour, but it is not your destination. You are being called into a space of radical self-love and divine freedom. You are being invited to step out of the shadow of what happened and into the light of who you are meant to be.
